ABOUT

The School of Art Computer Center (SOACC) provides a productive working environment for students enrolled in the School of Art, Art History, and Design. The lab provides computers equipped with the latest creative and productivity software, printers, scanners, plotters, as well as a wide variety of technology available for checkout. The School of Art encourages students to take advantage of lab resources for educational and collaborative purposes. Available equipment.

PRINTING

To print at a small scale (black and white laser, color laser, and small inkjet) payment is processed via the Creative Communications system (Copy Centers). Use your husky card to print on these printers. Options and pricing.

To print to the SOACC plotters, you are required to deposit funds into the Art Print Fees budget at the Student Fiscal Services Office at Schmitz Hall (Mon–Fri ONLY) in denominations of $20, $30, $40, $60, $80, and $100. Bring the receipt from this deposit to the SoACC and you will be issued a print card. Art plot print cards are non-refundable. Options and pricing

An alternate method of plot payment is also possible by using our PayFlow system. Note that there is a surcharge applied to cover the costs of this service. This is intended for times when Schmitz Hall is closed and the primary method of payment above is not possible.

EQUIPMENT CHECKOUT

Manuals for software, cd burners, digital cameras and other peripherals are available for checkout at the front desk with valid student ID.

Equipment checked out from the SoACC is generally on a 3-day basis — this includes digital cameras and video cameras as well as all other available items. Some equipment such as compact flash card readers are for use within the lab space only.

EQUIPMENT RESPONSIBILITY

Students are responsible for repair or replacement costs related to damage, theft, or loss of all equipment checked out from the SoACC. This includes digital cameras and digital video cameras. Please be careful with these devices so that they continue to be available for use.

SAVING FILES

All personal work must be saved on your student Dante account, UW Drive, USB mini-drive, CD/R, CD/RW, DVD-R disks, or external hard drive. We provide temporary storage on a Network volume — ArtStudent_share (note that this storage area is not backed up and is meant for temporary storage only if you need to access the file(s) from another student-managed computer before storing on your own media or other storage location). If you need assistance with systems or software in the lab please see one of the lab monitors.

Remember to remove your files from the SoACC network storage area (ArtStudent_share) at the end of each quarter!
