The BFA in Fibers
The undergraduate Fibers program is a major within the School of Arts Visual Art Division. The program approaches Fiber Arts as an integrated field in which surface design, non-woven, loom woven and surface embellishment skills are acquired in courses that encourage their expressive use. The curriculum includes the History of Textiles, Intermediate Fiber Studio, and Interdisciplinary Topics during the junior year. Internships are encouraged and available for interested majors. Opportunities exist for Fibers students to intern in museum settings, with production weavers, with natural dye houses as well as with practicing artists. The senior year concentrates on the refinement of the student's distinct voice, culminating in a senior thesis and BFA exhibition. Bi-weekly senior seminars provide opportunity to discuss readings, exhibitions, professional practices, and to critique work.
