Postbaccalaureate Study in Painting and Drawing
Postbaccalaureate is a matriculated status reserved for students who are working toward a second bachelor's degree, or preparing for entrance to graduate of professional school. Only a small number of applicants are admitted as postbaccalaureate students because the University's primary commitment is to undergraduates who are completing their first bachelor's degree.
Admission to the Painting and Drawing Program as a postbaccalaureate student is extremely competitive. Acceptance is based on two separate application procedures:
- Application to the School of Art, consisting of a portfolio review of the applicants work by the program faculty, transcripts from the first undergraduate degree, and a School of Art Supplementary Information Form outlining reasons for seeking instruction in painting at the University of Washington.
- Application to the University of Washington - The deadline for the portfolio review is before the deadline for the University of Washington; students only need to apply to the UW if they have passed the portfolio review.
- Students accepted as postbacs are expected to take classes as they pertain to the Painting curriculum and must enroll in classes as determined by the Painting and Drawing faculty. In general this program takes a minimum of 2-3 years to complete a degree.
Request a School of Art Supplementary Information Form from the Academic Advising & Student Services Office (616-3349). Return the form and portfolio to the Academic Advising & Student Services Office between January 1st and January 15th.
The Painting faculty will review the applications and make recommendations to the Academic Advising & Student Services Office. This office will notify applicants of the faculty decisions.
If the applicant passes the review of the painting faculty, they will be recommended to apply to the University of Washington. Students who miss this deadline or are not accepted to the University will not be considered postbaccalaureate students at the University of Washington.
