Requirements for PostBac Study in Art History

Postbaccalaureate is a status reserved for matriculated students who are working toward a second bachelor's degree or preparing for entrance to graduate or professional school. Only a small number of applicants are admitted as postbaccalaureate students; the University's primary commitment is to undergraduates completing a first bachelor degree. In keeping with university policy, the School of Art recommends admission of a very limited number of postbaccalaureates.

Applicants for postbaccalaureate status in art history may be admitted for Autumn, Winter, or Spring quarter, have generally had some course work in art history, and typically are seeking a second BA. Acceptance is based on transcripts from the first undergraduate degree and a School of Art Supplementary Information Form outlining the applicant's reasons for seeking instruction in art history at the University of Washington.

  1. To apply, students must obtain an undergraduate application from the University of Washington Office of Admissions. and submit the completed form to the Office of Admission by the appointed deadline.
  2. Advisers in the Office of Admissions will review and process the application and forward it to the Academic Advising and Student Services Office in the School of Art. At this time, the School will send a School of Art Supplementary Information Form that must be completed and returned within 14 days of receipt.
  3. The application and Supplementary Information Form will be reviewed and a recommendation will be sent to the University of Washington Office of Admissions. This office will review all recommendations and notify applicants of their status.

We recommend that prospective applicants speak with an adviser prior to applying.
