Opening on 26 October 2013 at the Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG) is an exhibition co-curated by Art History Professor Robin Wright. Titled Charles Edenshaw, it features the work of a famous Haida artist who lived from 1839 to 1920. Wright has been working on the exhibition since 2010. To celebrate the opening, there is an afternoon symposium in which Wright is participating. Interest in the symposium has been so strong that it has been moved from the VAG to a large room at The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (across the street from the VAG). The exhibition will remain on view through 02 February 2014. The Vancouver Sun has published an article on the exhibition that includes several quotes from Wright. It also has an associated slideshow of Edenshaw artworks.

Accompanying the exhibition is a catalog that Wright co-edited. It is the first major publication to focus on Edenshaw’s work.

As if Wright has not been busy enough, she had another book debut in October 2013: In the Spirit of the Ancestors: Contemporary Northwest Coast Art at the Burke Museum. The publication was co-edited by Katie Bunn-Marcuse (MA 1998, PhD 2007). Essays by each of them are also included. This book grew out of a 2007 Burke Museum exhibition with the same title, and it is the first of a series co-published by the Bill Holm Center and the University of Washington Press titled “Native Art of the Pacific Northwest.” Wright is Director of the Bill Holm Center and Bunn-Marcuse is Assistant Director and Managing Editor.
