Parnassus

Barista working at Parnassus coffee shop

We are sad to share that Parnassus Cafe has closed for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, it has not been able to break even in terms of expenses versus income for some time, so UW Housing & Food Services made the tough decision to shutter Parnassus at the beginning of winter quarter 2022. HFS has been the manager of the cafe for several years, but the School shared in both profits and losses. Neither HFS nor the School can afford to support a cafe that continues to lose money, despite its long history and status as a much-loved gathering place. RIP Parnassus.

About

Parnassus, the Art Building coffee shop, was established in 1951 by students, for students. The shop offers hot and cold espresso drinks, soft drinks, juices, and a wide variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches.

Parnassus is partnered with Husky Grind, which roasts their coffee on campus and ethically sources their beans from many locations worldwide.

UW Housing & Food Services became the manager of Parnassus in 2011, but half of the profits and all tips still support the Parnassus Endowed Fund, which in turn supports  scholarships and graduation awards for School students.

Parnassus Gallery

Housed within the cafe, The Parnassus Gallery is a space dedicated to showing student work, curated by students. Exhibitions are ongoing throughout the academic year, so check back often for new work.

Submissions of artwork are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. If you are a student interested in showing work in the Parnassus Gallery, please email the Gallery.
