During summer quarter 2015, Interaction Design Professor Tad Hirsch was a Digital Humanities Fellow at the UW Simpson Center for the Humanities. He worked on a project titled “AR-15: Field Stripping America’s Rifle.” That project fed into his autumn quarter tenure and promotion exhibition at the Jacob Lawrence Gallery, which was titled Contentious Products. Jonathan Hiskes, Communications Director at the Simpson Center, visited the exhibition and eventually wrote an essay about Hirsch’s work titled “The Instagram Militia and the Limits of Empathy.” Hiskes published the essay on the Simpson Center website on March 30, 2016.
