A a team of students from the University of Washington’s Division of Design program collaborated with Partners in Print (PiP) on a temporary exhibition: Your Words Have Power.
The initiative started as a class project last fall with 25 students in Kristine Matthews’ Exhibition Design course. Kicking off with a PiP letterpress workshop on campus, the students worked in small teams to develop concept designs for PiP’s new home, when it was still an empty shell. Those eight different student concepts went on display during the Open House event in December.
In January, ten students continued working together in an independent study with Kristine, this time to evolve some of the strongest ideas from the fall course and turn them into a constructable installation. Sustainably designed using cardboard in various weights and finishes, the exhibit combines 2d, 3d, and screen-based components together with a social media posts for @pipletterpress and @_uwdesign.
The exhibition was launched to the public at Partners in Print’s Grand Opening Celebration on April 27th and will remain up through June, with public access during several events. Visit Partners in Print's event calendar for upcoming opportunities to view the exhibition.
