Biography

Phil was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and lived here his entire life. He originally wanted to be a teacher, but after building his very first computer while in college, Phil decide to pursue IT as both a hobby and a career. Prior to this, he worked as a systems administrator for the Mercer Island School District and The Northwest School before moving forward to The Walt Disney Company, where he was a systems engineer for over six years. His favorite outdoor activities include hiking, longboarding, and snowboarding. He enjoys sketching and drawing during his free time as well as being a tourist in his own city.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and evaluate all IT operations within the School of Art + Art History + Design.
  • Design and implement IT strategies and infrastructure within the School of Art + Art History + Design, ensuring compatibility with central UW computing systems and security standards.
  • Plan, execute, and manage primarily internal web sites for the School of Art + Art History + Design; act as central point of contact and oversee and ensure functioning and security of sites.
  • Guide faculty and staff members within the School of Art + Art History + Design on implementation of new or upgrading existing technologies.
  • Administer equipment in school labs and leverage University IT services for systems administration.
  • Manage and administer budgets for the School of Art + Art History + Design computing services, including research, testing, and purchasing of software and hardware.
  • Write and oversee Student Technology Fee grants to support core technological needs for all staff, faculty, student labs, and loaner equipment within the School of Art + Art History + Design. 
  • Supervise staff and student employees, scheduling work, providing feedback, and conducting performance reviews.
