2015 Seattle Art Fair

Seattle Art FairThis inaugural event happens July 30 – August 2, 2015, at CenturyLink Event Center, and the School is a cultural partner. Many of our alumni and a few faculty are involved in the fair and the numerous off-site activities that have developed. Below is a list of what we have so far; let us know if we are missing something that involves school-related people by emailing soanews@uw.edu.

AT THE FAIR

Artist Trust is providing VIP passes, which include access to the preview on the evening of July 30. If you can afford it, purchase a Patron VIP Pass here. Proceeds go to Artist Trust, and you get earlier entry to the preview.

Abmeyer + Wood Fine Art is showing Professor Emerita Patti Warashina and Ford Crull (BFA 1976) in booth 617.

Elizabeth Leach Gallery has Isaac Layman (BFA 2003) among the artists in booth 106.

G. Gibson Gallery (owner, BFA 1985) is showing Eirik Johnson (BFA 1997) in booth 408.

Greg Kucera Gallery (owner, BFA 1980) has Sherry Markovitz (MFA 1975) among the artists in booth 103.

Linda Hodges Gallery will feature a just-finished piece by Lecturer Timea Tihanyi in booth 215.

Platform Gallery is showing Ross Sawyers (MFA 2007) in booth 609.

Season (owner, Robert Yoder, MFA 1987) has Mike Simi (MFA 2007) among the artists in booth 611.

Traver Gallery (president, Sarah Traver, BFA 2002) is showing Professor Jamie Walker in booth 319.

OFF-SITE

Abmeyer + Wood Fine Art has a group show titled Bodies + Beings, which includes Professor Emerita Patti Warashina and Jacob Foran (MFA 2010).

Art of the City Street Fest happens Saturday, August 1, from 11am to 11pm at the Tashiro Kaplan Building. This event involves live music, installations, exhibitions, open studios, performances, and more. Several alumni appear to be part of this.

Feat 2015 is an exhibition of work by 2015 winners of the Artist Trust Fellowships. We wrote about the faculty member and two alumni (Cummins, Grinnell, Rodriguez) who won fellowships in an earlier news post.

Foster/White Gallery is having a Happy Hour event on Saturday, August 1, 4-6pm, featuring selected local talents. Among these are Evan Blackwell (MFA 2008), Allison Collins (BA/BFA 1975), and George Rodriguez (MFA 2009).

G. Gibson Gallery is showing Dwell, a group exhibition that includes Cable Griffith (MFA 2002), Eirik Johnson (BFA 1997), and Samantha Scherer (MFA 1997).

MadArt has Backdrop, an installation by Julie Alpert (MFA 2008), in their Studio. Join the artist at 11am on Saturday, August 1, for a special event.

Out of Sight is an exhibition at King Street Station. Four local curators selected many contemporary Pacific Northwest artists. They also have a Facebook event page and their own opening night party. Quite a few alumni were chosen for this.

Platform Gallery has Summer Group Show, which includes Lauren Grossman (BFA 1983) and Ross Sawyers (MFA 2007).

SOIL includes Thom Heileson (MFA 1998) and Joana Stillwell (BA/BFA 2012) in New Members Show 2015. They have special hours during the fair.

Traver Gallery is showing an installation by Professor Mark Zirpel titled Three Views: In, Out and At.
