Mayor’s Arts Awards

Submitted on July 21, 2015 - 2:31pm

The five 2015 awards from Seattle Mayor Ed Murray were announced on July 21. Two of the awards were won by faculty: Robin Wright and Akio Takamori. The public awards ceremony was on Friday, September 4, as part of the opening of Bumbershoot. If you missed the event, you can access a video of the ceremony in this Art Beat post (go to 25:40 for Wright and 30:45 for Takamori).

Art History Professor Robin Wright received the Cultural Ambassador Award. Her teaching in the School and work at the Burke Museum and Bill Holm Center for the Study of Northwest Native Art has helped to spread knowledge about Native art in our region.

3D4M Professor Emeritus Akio Takamori won the Arts & Innovation Award. His artwork has garnered growing national and international recognition, and he has received a number of prestigious grants and fellowships.

City Arts published articles about Wright and Takamori before the awards were presented.
