The Jacob Lawrence Gallery is excited to announce Simon Benjamin: A Bolt From The Blue, a publication highlighting the 2024 Jacob Lawrence Legacy Resident, Simon Benjamin, his practice, and reflections from his time in residence. 

Organized by guest curator Berette S. Macaulay, A Bolt From The Blue was an exhibition exploring Benjamin’s research of the sea and coastal areas as connected sites of colonial legacy. 

The publication was made in collaboration with Simon Benjamin (artist) and Berette S. Macaulay (editor), and was designed by Vivian Cho (BDes 2025). There are texts from Assistant Professor in Art History Jennifer Baez, Temi Odumosu, and Adjua Gargi Nzinga Greaves. 

The publication was printed locally by Girlie Press, Inc. Free copies are available for all in the Jacob Lawrence Gallery while supplies last.
