Goldsmith has been a UW faculty member since 1983 and past chair of the Fibers program. She received an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1979. An active studio artist, her work is represented in private and public collections and has been exhibited nationally and internationally. She has organized and directed unique educational programs including conferences, workshops, interdisciplinary summer art institutes, study abroad programs and currently is actively involved in the Commissions Project, providing students with opportunities to apply classroom skills to the workplace. She is especially interested in the ways in which textiles function as social and cultural documents of the people who produce and use them.
