Barnes is a current M.A. student in Art History, studying Counter-Reformational art by women artists. Her undergraduate thesis "Mother of God and Bride of Christ: Artemisia Gentileschi and Marian Imagery in Counter-Reformational Rome," examined works of the Madonna and Child by the artist, particularly in reexamination of the religious roles of Mary in the period. She has won several awards during her undergraduate career including the Senior Honors Award in Art History, and has presented her research at several conferences regarding feminist art, including the International Women in the Arts Conference in Rome and the Feminist Art History Conference at American University. She is excited to continue her research at University of Washington and develop as a student, researcher, and teacher, and later hopes to complete a PhD.
