Biography
Originally from Rhode Island, Skye OBrien moved to Oahu, Hawaii to pursue the creative process where she graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and managed her professional practice for the last decade. She specializes in sculptural glass art, body painting, and the creation of visual narratives that regard topics such as femininity, sexual expression, and the history of the female form in art making.
She has studied at Pilchuck Glass School, Urban Glass, and the Rhode Island School of Design to explore methods of kiln forming, hot glass blowing, and casting. Her practice involves the use of multiple processes and mediums collaborating together to create cohesive bodies of work that express the materiality of glass as a reflection of the human experience.
OBrien’s research includes studies on sustainability and energy efficiency in the glass making community. Her goal is to continue this investigation through her graduate experience.
