Melanie Enderle

Art History (she/her/hers)

I am an art historian who has been associated with the UW since 2003. I also teach regularly at Seattle Pacific University as well as several area colleges, and I have been an educator at Seattle Art Museum and Philadelphia Museum of Art. I received an MA in British art and literature from Reading University in England and my art history PhD at the University of Washington.

My research is socio-cultural driven with interests in modern European and American images of public spaces, gendered behavior, and representations of women. Recent publications include “The Reflective Eye of Walter Sickert: Mirroring Male Victorian Dominance in the Era of the New Woman,” “The Empowered Ingénue: Women Stepping Out as Solo Performers Onstage,” and “Windows on the Soul: Portraits by Major American Artists.”

Stefan Gonzales

Photo/Media (they/them/theirs)

I am an artist and arts educator from Colorado, now based in Seattle. I am Prio/Manso/Tiwa, and a trans/nonbinary individual. My practice centers on decolonizing art and its institutions. I received an MFA from the University of Washington in 2020 and BFA from Cornish College of the Arts in 2016. I have participated in residencies at Signal Fire Arts in Portland and the Center on Contemporary Art in Seattle. My recent exhibitions include Frye Art Museum: Boren Banner Project (2022) in Seattle, Melanie Flood Projects (2020) in Portland, and Mount Analogue (2019) in Seattle. I have been teaching for four years, and I believe education is crucial in preserving the arts. It is our bridge between art and community while creating new and exciting critical thinkers.

I am a visual artist who grew up knowing, loving, and connecting with the trees and landscape of Iowa. After a storm in 2020 destroyed 70% of the beloved and iconic tree canopy in my hometown of Cedar Rapids, I began investigating the role trees play in my formative and current experiences of landscape and place. Through the lenses of loss, memory, and ecological grief, my current work explores our changed relationship to trees and landscapes after natural disaster and human intervention.

I am an artist based in Seattle. I make photographs and collages to investigate visual perception and pleasure and to complicate the act of looking. I hold a BFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts and an MFA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago. In 2015 I was a recipient of an Individual Photographer's Fellowship from the Aaron Siskind Foundation for my project Natural Deceptions. In 2017 a book of this work was published by Skylark Editions and I was awarded the Aperture Portfolio Prize. Recently my work has been exhibited at Specialist, SF Camerawork, The Museum of Contemporary Photography, Aperture Foundation, The Museum of Sex, and Blue Sky Gallery. My photographs have been published in the following publications: BOMB, The New Yorker, Vogue Italia, PDN, Aperture, and Vrij Nederland.

Visual Communication Design, website, LinkedIn (he/him/his)

I’m a designer, animator, and developer with a passion for combining technical solutions for a creative design problem. I graduated from the College for Creative Studies in the Communication Design department in Detroit, MI, in 2016 and taught for three semester there in the Entertainment Arts department. My focus of design is in motion design, UI design, and more currently, game design. I currently work at an Indie game studio as a 3D Design Generalist. I work on various 3D aspects to the game development including UI design and asset creation. Learning is such a huge part of my job and career and I enjoy sharing what I’ve learned so far. Allowing people to find ways of understanding a concept or tool are one of the many aspects of teaching that I really enjoy.

I was born and raised in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and moved permanently to the US in 2007. My work has been shown at museums and galleries, featured in art journals, periodicals, and on music album covers. My large “Koncentrik Painting” series is owned by the University of Washington and on permanent display at the Mary Gates Hall. I lecture on art history for Seattle University, and work as Gallery Director & Chief Curator for the Kirkland Arts Center. I am a member of the Shift Gallery in Seattle, where I work and live with my wife Tomitha, and our dogs Blue and Sister Ray.

Arianne True

Interdisciplinary Visual Art, website

Hi! I'm an experimental poet who likes making installations. I grew up in Seattle, though now I live in Tacoma. I love teaching as much as I love making my own things, and getting to engage with students around questions of creation and analysis feeds my process too. I recently finished a manuscript and am sending it around, and earlier this year got to adapt it into a multimedia installation event at Seattle Rep. I’m starting my next book project this fall. I love zines, curiosity, and anything multimedia or interdisciplinary, so I’m really excited to be in IVA this quarter!
