Design Professor Annabelle Gould is the new School Director

The School of Art + Art History + Design is pleased to announce Professor Annabelle Gould as its next Director. Gould begins her five-year Director appointment in July 2024 after a year working as the Associate Director in tandem with Jamie Walker. Walker will be stepping away from administration and returning to research and teaching after serving as Director of the School of Art + Art History + Design since 2014.

Gould joined UW in 2003 and is a Professor of Visual Communication Design in the Division of Design. Her focus is on teaching typography as a primary means of communication and creative expression. Her creative scholarship is centered on designing publications for arts and cultural clients including Chronicle Books, the Traver Gallery, Lead Pencil Studios, Marquand Books and the University of Washington. She is the creator of the AIGA Design Teaching Resource and former co-chair of the AIGA Design Education Community Steering Committee. Her design work has been recognized in the AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers competition, the Type Director’s Club, the Society of Publication Designers, and Print Magazine.
