Jason Germany’s collaborations result in NSF and CoMotion grants

Submitted on February 3, 2025 - 6:23pm

Industrial Design associate professor, Jason Germany was awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded grant to research AI in medical technology. The project, titled “An Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Enabled Multi-sensing Instrument for Parathyroid Detection”, involves a team of UW researchers including Germany, who is a co-principal investigator on the grant. The two-year project aims to eliminate complications of thyroid surgery by commercializing an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven, multi-sensor, tissue identification/confirmation instrument. It will also support and train graduate and undergraduate students working in an interdisciplinary team (engineering, industrial design, and medicine).

Germany is also a co-principle investigator on another recently awarded CoMotion Innovation Gap Fund for the project “Emergency Airway Device”. The CoMotion Innovation Gap Fund provides grants of up to $75K per project team to move University of Washington innovations to the next stage of commercial development and investment.
