Graduation Speaker: Tiffany-Ashton Gatsby, Art
Tiffany-Ashton Gatsby received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art in June 2022, with departmental honors and a concentration in Interdisciplinary Visual Art. They had a second major in Anthropology, specializing in Medical Anthropology and Global Health, and a Diversity minor. In 2021, Gatsby was selected as a member of the Husky 100.

Graduation Speaker: Alexander Betz, Art History
Alexander Betz received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History with departmental honors in June 2022. He had a minor in Classical Studies and a second degree in Biochemistry. He was the Division of Art History’s undergraduate speaker for the School’s 2022 Graduation Celebration. Below is the text of his speech.

Graduation Speakers: Dustin Mara + Joyce Lin, Design
Dustin Mara received his Bachelor of Design degree in Visual Communication Design in June 2022. He had a second degree in International Studies, focusing on Europe. Joyce Lin received her Bachelor of Design degree in Interaction Design at the same time. She had a minor in Art History. Each was selected for membership in the 2022 Husky 100.

Graduation Speaker: Eason Yang, Graduate Student
Eason Yang received his Master of Design degree in June 2022. He was selected to be the graduate student speaker at the School’s 2022 Graduation Celebration. Below is the text of his speech.
Hello, faculty, parents, relatives, distinguished guests, undistinguished guests, special guests I invited to see me speak today, and the most attractive graduating class in the history of UW, congratulations!!

Graduation Speaker: Adam Kingman, Alum
Adam Kingman received his Bachelor of Design degree in Industrial Design in 2014. He won the third season of Making It, a television competition, in 2021. The College of Arts & Sciences published a story about his win in early 2022.
The School invited Kingman to speak at our Graduation Celebration in June 2022. Below is an outline of his presentation.

Interdisciplinary Visual Art Teaching Professor Timea Tihanyi and DXARTS Assistant Professor Tivon Rice are each recipients of CityArtists Awards from Seattle Office of Arts & Culture.
Koplin Del Rio Gallery did a short interview with Photo/Media Professor Ellen Garvens in the spring, which included text about and videos from her time at Villa I Tatti in Florence, Italy.
Fresh Consulting published an article in May about an autumn 2021 collaboration with Industrial Design seniors.
A 2021 Bill Skok / KIRO7 story about Sculpture Professor Emeritus John T. Young's Fin Project in Magnuson Park won a Northwest Emmy on June 4. Go to 2:08:36 in this video to watch Skok accept the award and talk about Fin Project.
Long-time Art Building custodian Evalina Taganna Romano received a Together We Will Award during the June 9 UW Awards of Excellence ceremony.
The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum is currently showing This Present Moment: Crafting a Better World, which includes six alums: Lanny Bergner (BA 1981), Dale Chihuly (BFA 1965), Joe Feddersen (BA/BFA 1983), Ron Ho (MAT 1967), Marvin Oliver (MFA 1973), and Robert Sperry (MFA 1955 + faculty). Lele Barnett (BA 1999) has curated a four-artist exhibition at Wing Luke Museum titled Reorient: Journeys Through Art and Healing. Crosscut published an article about Barnett's discovery of one of the artist's work.
Brent Watanabe (BFA 1995) is one of two winners of a 2022 Artist Trust Arts Innovator Award.
Lauren Palmor (PhD 2016) is the author of Bouquets of Art: A Flower Dictionary from the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. She is assistant curator of American art at FAMSF (promoted to associate curator in July 2022).
Stefan Gonzalez (MFA 2020) has an artwork displayed on the exterior of the Frye Art Museum through October 16. The Seattle Times published an article about the work.
Julia Harrison (MFA 2004) has a new public art piece, Connected Community, at Miller Community Center in Seattle.
