The gallery continues to mount exhibitions in alternative spaces during the renovation of the first floor and building of a new gallery space.

Other News

Interdisciplinary Visual Art Assistant Professor Whitney Lynn presented a performance titled Before the Wax Melts at Untitled Art in Miami Beach during late November; this work was supported by the College of Arts & Sciences Arts Division.

Painting + Drawing Assistant Professor Sangram Majumdar had work in Feast of the Gods at Aicon Contemporary in New York City during December.

A Seattle Times article about Sound Transit public art quoted Whitney Lynn and Mary Ann Peters (MFA 1977); it also discusses works by Leo Saul Berk (MFA 1999) and Roger Shimomura (BA 1961).

The 365: AIGA Year in Design winners were announced in December; among them were Gulch Hub by Studio Matthews, headed by Visual Communication Design Associate Professor Kristine Matthews, and Not Entirely Dead by Eason Yang (MDes 2022).

Painting + Drawing Professor Ann Gale has work in Beyond the Line at Dolby Chadwick Gallery in San Francisco through January 28.

ArtsWA, the Washington State Arts Commission, recently announced its 2022 Curator Roster, which includes faculty members Whitney Lynn and Timea Tihanyi, this quarter’s part-time lecturer Philippe Hyojung Kim, and these alums: Anna Mlasowsky (MFA 2016), Miha Sarani (BFA 2015, MA 2019), and Ben Schreck (MFA 2016)

Mithun, the company designing our first floor renovation, recently received the American Institute of Architects 2023 AIA Architecture Firm Award.

Late Professor Emeritus and alum George Tsutakawa (BA 1937, MFA 1950) has a solo exhibition at Cascadia Art Museum through March 26; the exhibition is accompanied by a catalog.

Dale Chihuly (BFA 1965) is featured in a Smithsonian Magazine article and a Smithsonian Channel show.

Norie Sato (MFA 1974) has a new public art installation at the Union Street Pedestrian Bridge near the Seattle waterfront.

Ayumi Horie (MFA 2000) was recipient of the 2022 Maine Craft Artist Award and was featured in a Craft in America episode.

We are sad to report the passing of Judith Ellen Peters (BA 1982) and Priscilla “Pinky” Anderson Privat (BA 1959).
