Biography
Leo Carmona (b. Oax, Mexico) is a communications professional, photographer, and media producer. Before joining the School of Art + Art History + Design in January 2023, he worked independently as a communications consultant and producer collaborating with businesses to design brand experiences and materialize stories across digital and physical media. Clients included BECU, Harvard Medical School, Microsoft, King County, Seattle Public Library, and the City of Seattle. His previous roles include Marketing & Events Manager for Snohomish County Leadership, Communications Associate for CASA Latina, and Director of Community Outreach & Engagement for Colectiva Legal (People's Law Collective). Leo earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Washington in 2016, with a minor in Latin American & Caribbean Studies.
Job Responsibilities
As the Media Relations Specialist, Leo is part doer and part strategist. As a doer, he manages the School’s external communications and produces engaging content for digital platforms and publications to amplify our brand and impact. He writes original stories and manages the School's website, newsletter, press, and social media presence. As a strategist, he identifies needs and opportunities, executes creative solutions, advises best practices, and implements long-term systematic solutions that streamline workflows. He also spearheads event marketing for the School's major events and the Jacob Lawrence Gallery's exhibitions and programs, including managing the public calendar and driving e-mail marketing, press, promotional materials, and photographic documentation.
