This autumn, the UW campus will become Seattle’s most expansive art gallery. From September 13 – October 25, 2014, local arts organization MadArt, in association with ArtsUW, will present Mad Campus, an outdoor public art exhibition that spans approximately 2.5 miles and features 12 large-scale, temporary, site-specific works inspired by their locations. These installations by Pacific Northwest artists will be interactive, innovative, and surprising.
The artists selected for Mad Campus are listed below with notations if they have a connection to the School of Art + Art History + Design. Additional information about them and images of the artworks before, during, and after installation will be found on the Mad Campus webpages.

School staff and faculty have been involved in Mad Campus from its early stages, and now students are involved as well. From the press release about Mad Campus:
Students in the UW School of Art + Art History + Design are participating in Mad Campus as assistants for Mad Campus artists during construction of their pieces, as designers of print and online materials, as docents for Mad Campus tours, and by documenting the artists’ creative process through a video project. Autumn quarter, several School of Art courses will integrate Mad Campus into their curricula. “It’s a great opportunity for our students to get a close-up view of the entire process behind the creation and installation of a dozen unique sculptures on their own campus,” says Jamie Walker, director of the School of Art + Art History + Design.
Division of Design Professor Kristine Matthews and her student, Katherine Wong, created the wayfinding and signage for the exhibit in consultation with Mad Art. One of the School Advisory Board members, Hilary Lee, trained the students who acted as docents.
Many people joined MadArt and ArtsUW for a Mad Campus Art Walk hosted by Arts Dawgs on September 28, 11am-3pm, starting in Red Square. This was a free, family-friendly way to experience the campus-wide exhibit—meet the artists behind the artwork, take guided tours, enjoy snacks, swag, activities, and more!
