The Society for Experiential Graphic Design (SEGD) created a new award in 2018: the Educator Award. According to the SEGD website, this award is given "For demonstrating innovation in the theory and practice of design education that not only integrates the needs of the industry but serves to advance the field." Kristine Matthews, Chair and Associate Professor of Visual Communication Design, was the first recipient of the award, which was announced at the early June SEGD conference in Minneapolis. Matthews was not able to attend the conference because it conflicted with the opening of the Design Show in the Jacob Lawrence Gallery, and she is the faculty coordinator of that exhibition. Congratulations to Matthews for this honor from her peers!
