Zhi Lin

MoNA Luminaries

Painting + Drawing Professor Zhi Lin is one of the 2017 recipients of a Luminary Artist Award from the Museum of Northwest Art. Two other artists with School ties were recognized at this event.

Student Work at Meany Center

Thirteen students have work on display in the lower lobby of Meany Center on campus through May 2018. Be sure to view the exhibition the next time you attend a performance.

Graham Boettcher

Boettcher is New BMA Director

Graham Boettcher (MA 1999) was recently appointed as the new R. Hugh Daniel Director at the Birmingham Museum of Art. He has served the museum in several roles since 2006.

A number of named scholarships support more than thirty students this academic year. The recipients and donors are recognized at an invitation-only event on October 12.

The University of Puget Sound Department of Art and Art History is hosting two exhibitions in the Kittredge Gallery and a colloquium, all of which focus on painting and include School-affiliated people.

New graduate students started classes and were welcomed to the School in an evening event on September 27. We attract outstanding students with competitive financial packages built from a number of sources.

Roberts Wins Swiss Award

3D4M Lecturer Kate Roberts was invited to participate in this year's Parcours Céramique Carougeois in Switzerland. She built Gate to nowhere on site, and she won the Fondation Bruckner Award.

In Memoriam – Ron Ho

We are sad to report the passing of Ron Ho. He was a renowned jewelry artist, alum, and supporter of School students for many years through the Lambda Rho Alumni Association.


Jacob Lawrence Gallery

The Gallery is launching a new initiative called the Critical Art Writing Group, which is born out of the conviction that timely, robust, and well-researched art writing is integral to an arts ecosystem as well as in the ongoing effort to see our world anew. It is organized by Minh Nguyen (writer) and Emily Zimmerman (Director, Jacob Lawrence Gallery). Read more.

Associate Professor Kristine Matthews and Professor Karen Cheng are UX Awards Finalists, and they will be speaking at the 2017 UX Awards conference in Palo Alto, California on November 9.

Associate Professor Sonal Khullar is organizer and chair of panel 7 at American Council for Southern Asian Art Symposium this month. She will be speaking at a symposium titled "The Idea of 'Global Modernism'" in Berkeley later this month.

Keegan Hall (BA 2003) has teamed up with seven Seahawks to auction an artwork and raise funds for a child with cancer.

A monograph titled Multiplex about the work of Professor Emeritus Paul Berger is in the works. Pre-order your copy to make it a reality.

Shay (Shaghayegh) Ghassemian (MDes 2015) will be a guest speaker at the International Association of Societies of Design Research 2017 Conference in early November.

Assistant Professor Michael Swaine, as a member of Futurefarmers, has an exhibition at Hunter East Harlem Gallery through February 4.

Staff member and alum Kim Van Someren (MFA 2004) has work in a two-person exhibition titled Adjunct Appendages at Hoedemaker Pfeiffer Gallery through December 1.

Lecturer Morten Steen Hansen has an article in the upcoming issue of The Art Bulletin (vol. 99, no. 3), which is titled "'Pro Bono Malum': Francesco Furini, Ludovico Ariosto, and the Verso of Painting."

Mary Ann Peters (MFA 1977) is having a solo exhibition titled slipstream at James Harris Gallery from October 19 through November 22.
