2023-2024 Scholarship Recipients

AIGA, a professional association for design, announced the winners of the 365: AIGA Year in Design Awards on December 1, 2022. Two of the awardees are Studio Matthews and alum Eason Yang.

Awards for Studio Matthews
Studio Matthews, a design firm led by Visual Communication Design Associate Professor Kristine Matthews, recently won awards for two of their 2021 projects. Eli Kahn (BDes 2020) is a designer at the firm and worked on both of these projects.

President's Medalist
Congratulations to Tiffany-Ashton Gatsby! They were one of two graduating University of Washington undergraduates awarded a 2022 President's Medal. UW President Ana Mari Cauce presented the medal to Gatsby on June 9 at the Awards of Excellence ceremony.

2022 Graduation + Teaching Awards
Six graduate students and four undergraduates were recognized with individual awards at our in-person Graduation Celebration, plus one undergraduate received a President's Medal. Five students also gave short presentations during the ceremony.

Dyson Award Winner
Congratulations to recent alum Thipok (Poom) Cholsaipant! His breath glucometer, AeroLyze, is winner of the US national James Dyson Award, and it is part of the competition for the international award from the James Dyson Foundation.

Fulbright for Miller
Alum Miles Miller has been selected for a Fulbright Fellowship. He will be doing research in South Korea on the indigenous innovations and modernization of traditional Korean residential architecture, design, and craft.
