Disability studies announces 2023 award winners

ART 285: Introduction to New Genres
Hayden Stern, a transfer student new to UW, shares their experience in this autumn quarter class taught by Interdisciplinary Visual Art Assistant Professor Rob Rhee. The class ultimately redirected Stern's focus in the Art major.

An Animated Life
When Nathan Jones transferred to the UW, he chose majors based on interest rather than career security: Creative Writing in the Department of English and Painting + Drawing in the School of Art + Art History + Design. That decision paid off.

2023 MDes Work in Progress
Four Master of Design students are working towards graduation in June 2023. On December 8, they shared their current thesis research at an in-person poster show, and they now want to share that research more widely.

President's Medalist
Congratulations to Tiffany-Ashton Gatsby! They were one of two graduating University of Washington undergraduates awarded a 2022 President's Medal. UW President Ana Mari Cauce presented the medal to Gatsby on June 9 at the Awards of Excellence ceremony.

Simpson Center Support for Art History
Two Art History faculty — Adair Rounthwaite and Kathryn Bunn-Marcuse — and two Art History graduate students — Nicole Block and Ananya Sikand — have received 2022–2023 funding from the UW Simpson Center for the Humanities.

Graduation Speaker: Adam Kingman, Alum
Adam Kingman received his Bachelor of Design degree in Industrial Design in 2014. He won the third season of Making It, a television competition, in 2021. The School invited Kingman to speak at our Graduation Celebration in June 2022.

Graduation Speaker: Eason Yang, Graduate Student
Eason Yang received his Master of Design degree in June 2022. He was selected to be the graduate student speaker at the School’s 2022 Graduation Celebration, and he is Not Entirely Dead.

Graduation Speakers: Dustin Mara + Joyce Lin, Design
Dustin Mara received his Bachelor of Design degree in Visual Communication Design in June 2022. Joyce Lin received her Bachelor of Design degree in Interaction Design at the same time. Mara and Lin were the Division of Design’s undergraduate speakers for the School’s 2022 Graduation Celebration.

Alexander Betz received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History with departmental honors in June 2022. He was the Division of Art History’s undergraduate speaker for the School’s 2022 Graduation Celebration.

Graduation Speaker: Tiffany-Ashton Gatsby, Art
Tiffany-Ashton Gatsby received their Bachelor of Arts degree in Art, with departmental honors and a concentration in Interdisciplinary Visual Art, in June 2022. Gatsby was the Division of Art’s undergraduate speaker for the School’s 2022 Graduation Celebration.
