
What is Possible?
A new website about an Amie McNeel and Mark Zirpel project debuted at the end of November 2016. The College of Arts & Sciences chose this subject to represent the entire College in the University's Be Boundless campaign.

UW Wayfinding
The UW campus in Seattle is beautiful, but finding one’s way across it has often proved confusing. Now, thanks to 23 guide signs installed at the beginning of autumn quarter 2016, that situation is greatly improved.

McClelland Curates Exhibition
Ashley Verplank McClelland, a PhD Candidate in the Division of Art History, has curated a show of work by Susan Point. It is at Western Gallery through December 3. She has also organized a series of related events.

Utopia Neighborhood Club
A series of 2016–2017 exhibitions hosted by the Jacob Lawrence Gallery. Faculty work, student projects, and art by Jacob Lawrence are featured in separate shows. Several events accompany each exhibition.

2016-2017 Undergraduate Scholarships
A number of named scholarships support thirty students this academic year. They will be recognized this autumn at a private event on October 26.

Student Work at Meany Hall
Seventeen pieces were selected by School Director Jamie Walker for display during the 2016-2017 academic year. The next time you attend an event at Meany Hall, be sure to see the exhibition.

2016 Graduate Recruitment Awards
New graduate students started classes and were welcomed to the School in an evening event on September 28. We attract outstanding students with competitive financial packages built from a number of sources.

New School Website
Welcome to the new website for the School of Art + Art History + Design. The creation of this site involved more than a dozen people and took over a year to complete.

Pair Wins IDEA Silver
Miles Miller and Christoffer Hart learned in August that their Naloxone OD Rescue Kit, designed in their last quarter before receiving their BDes degrees, was a Silver category IDEA 2016 winner in this IDSA competition.

Zhu Wins HUB Director's Award
Two paintings by Kewei Zhu, who just earned his BFA in Painting + Drawing, have been selected for the 2016 HUB Director's Award. The paintings become part of the HUB Permanent Art Collection.

2016 Microsoft Research Design Expo
Five 2016 graduates of Interaction Design participated in the Faculty Summit on July 13, which was part of Microsoft Research's annual Design Expo. They presented Polly, a CUI that engages young people in political conversation.

Active Art History Graduate Students
MA and PhD students in the Division of Art History are often busy with research, writing, presentations, and projects. We report on the recent and upcoming activities of five continuing students and two newly-minted PhDs.

2016 Graduation + Teaching Awards
Ten students were recognized with awards at our Graduation Celebration on June 11. One of the students, Tzyy Yi (Amy) Young, also was the recipient of the Arts & Sciences 2016 Dean's Medal in the Arts.

Art History: 4 PhDs + 1 MA
Five graduate students from the Division of Art History completed their degrees during the 2015-2016 academic year: Di Lodovico, Hafferty, Henneman, Palmor, and Waterman.

2016 Undergraduate Research Symposium
One Division of Art History and four Division of Art students (plus a non-Art student mentored by one of our faculty) are participating in this year’s symposium on Friday, May 20.

2016 MFA + MDes Thesis Exhibition

Tropical Lab Residency
Did you know we have a Singapore connection? A Sand Point Gallery exhibit by a current student and an alumna shows work inspired by this residency. Tropical Lab founder Milenko Prvački gives a lecture on February 18.
BUY ART + Strange Coupling
BUY ART is working with Strange Coupling to create two very different events, offered at the same time, and sharing the same goal: support of UW Art majors and alumni. Both events start on Wednesday, March 2.
2016 Design Career Fair
Friday, April 1, 2-5pm
The Division of Design is pleased to announce the third annual Design Career Fair. The fair will offer employers a preview of the 2016 graduating class in Industrial Design, Interaction Design, and Visual Communication Design. Participating firms will be able to host a table promoting their company as well as spend time engaging with students and reviewing their portfolios. Juniors in the Division of Design will also attend. If you wish to meet with our upcoming graduates or hire summer interns, the Design Career Fair is for you!
