Due to the passing of Professor Doug Jeck, 3D4M has decided to cancel the open house. There will still be an opening for the two student exhibitions starting at 6pm.

MONDAY – Volume 6
MONDAY is an arts journal produced by the Jacob Lawrence Gallery. Titled “Lux Aeterna,” volume 6 extends the themes and inquiries of the gallery’s 2021 exhibition of the same name.

2022 Critical Issues Lecture Series
This lecture series is held January 14 – March 4 and is hosted in collaboration with the Henry Art Gallery. The lectures are free and open to the public.

BAM Biennial 2021: Architecture & Urban Design

The Reordering of Things
The Jacob Lawrence Gallery presents The Reordering of Things, a group exhibition showcasing works in a variety of media by nine second-year MFA students. It runs October 19 through November 6.

GSAH + Dismantling the Canon
The Graduate Students of Art History (GSAH) is currently quite active. The student organization has a new website as well as a reading group called Dismantling the Canon, which received Simpson Center funding for this academic year.

Symposium Synopsis
On April 30, 2021, the Division of Design hosted a virtual event titled A Symposium on Design Graduate Education. The meeting was co-organized by Audrey Desjardins, James Pierce, and Annabelle Gould.

(in)Visibility
This exhibition in the hall outside the Jacob Lawrence Gallery focuses on the work of UW custodians. It is curated by Evalynn Fae Taganna Romano and runs from September 28 – December 10, 2021.

Q+A with Claire Cowie and Leo Berk
This couple are both MFA alums. They are currently working on their first large-scale artistic collaboration at MadArt Studio: Niche Audience. The resulting exhibition opens on October 14 and runs through November 20.

Audrey Desjardins: Data Imaginaries

As we await the return of the Seattle Art Fair in 2022, we celebrate the second year of SDAF. Several galleries are showing the work of retired faculty and/or alums of the School, including the Jacob Lawrence Gallery.

Lux Aeterna
The Jacob Lawrence Gallery and Northwest Film Forum proudly present Lux Aeterna, an exhibition featuring 16 artists exploring the mutability of media made and consumed using ever-evolving platforms. It runs July 29 through September 7.

IVA Exhibition: Strangely Still
Students in Timea Tihanyi's ART 400 (Interdisciplinary Visual Art Senior Studio) are wrapping up a rather unusual year with their online capstone exhibition.

Queer Imagination
The Jacob Lawrence Gallery proudly presents a group exhibition curated by Brittney Frantece, recipient of the gallery’s 2021 Curatorial Fellowship for BIPOC Graduate Students. It is on view June 3 through July 8, 2021.

Murmurations
May brings the launch of Murmurations, a new Seattle-wide arts collaboration spearheaded by six cultural institutions: Frye Art Museum, Henry Art Gallery, Jacob Lawrence Gallery, Northwest Film Forum, On the Boards, and Velocity Dance Center.

James Allister Sprang: Aquifer of the Hum + Aquifer of the Ducts
James Allister Sprang brings his work to On the Boards in Seattle on May 15 + 16 with the premiere of Aquifer of the Hum, a newly commissioned 10-minute sound meditation as part of Lux Aeterna hosted by the Jacob Lawrence Gallery.

The Jacob Lawrence Gallery is pleased to premiere Ariel René Jackson’s Descendance, a drone-shot video featuring interdisciplinary tap dance artist Michael J. Love and an original score by jazz musician Joseph C. Dyson Jr. The exhibition is on view from January 28 through February 23, 2021.

Parnassus Gallery Online

New Exhibit At Birmingham Museum of Art Shows American History’s Violent Struggle
This exhibition features a painting series about American history by the late Professor Emeritus Jacob Lawrence. The story includes quotes from alum Barbara Earl Thomas who studied with Lawrence.
