NuBee is a smart bee home designed to support cavity-nesting bees by providing them with a safe, enticing habitat and help with mitigating harm from pesticides. NuBee’s plexiglas viewing tray allows users to observe the nesting progress of the bees in real time. A red LED light shines on the bees for five minutes daily to reduce the stress of pesticides. Paired with an integrated app, the system aids people in learning and caring for the bees; helping gardens flourish while supporting the broader ecosystem.

Designed by Industrial Design juniors Gabriela Membreño and Lola Foti, NuBee is a part of a range of products produced during Meichun Liu's Intermediate ID Studio where juniors were tasked with constructing smart product concepts paired with a digital component to structure cohesive product service systems.
