The UW campus in Seattle is beautiful, but finding one’s way across it has often proved confusing. Now, thanks to 23 guide signs installed at the beginning of autumn quarter 2016, that situation is greatly improved.

9e2 takes place October 21 to 29 at King Street Station and other venues. Installations include work by Senior Lecturer Timea Tihanyi and two other alums. Another alum is involved in one of the performances.

2016 Genius + Neddy Awards

School alums did well this year in two local competitions. Three were finalists for the Neddy Artist Award, and two were nominated for a Stranger Genius Award. Barbara Earl Thomas won a Genius Award. A Neddy exhibit runs through Oct 23 with several events.

Brent Holland Named 2016 Iowa Arts Council Fellow

Holland Named Iowa Arts Council Fellow

Brent Holland (MFA 2004) received a $10,000 Iowa Arts Council Artist Fellowship. He was one of five people selected for this year's awards. He is also an Associate Professor of Art and Visual Culture at Iowa State University.

Five 2016 graduates of Interaction Design participated in the Faculty Summit on July 13, which was part of Microsoft Research's annual Design Expo. They presented Polly, a CUI that engages young people in political conversation.

Mintz Moves to Asian Art Museum

In May, the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco announced that Robert Mintz (MA 1995, PhD 2002) has been appointed as the new Deputy Director, Art & Programs. He begins work there on July 5, 2016. Mintz has been at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland, since 2006.

Carol Ivory (MA 1982, PhD 1990) began seriously studying the art of the Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia, while a PhD student. She has recently curated the most comprehensive exhibition to date on this topic at Musée du Quai Branly in Paris.

United States Artists, an organization based in Chicago, announced this year’s USA Fellows on November 10, 2015. Among the 37 selected from over 400 nominees was Ayumi Horie (MFA 2000). It is a huge honor to be selected as a fellow, and each fellow receives an unrestricted $50,000 award. Learn more about our previous recipients.
