
Ozubko Retires
Design Professor Christopher Ozubko — who served as the School's director from 1996 to 2014, taught both undergraduate and graduate students, and led the Design in Rome Exploration Seminar from 2005 to 2016 — is retiring after 39 years.

New Book for Bunn-Marcuse
Art History Assistant Professor Kathryn Bunn-Marcuse is co-editor, with Aldona Jonaitis, of a new book published by University of Washington Press: Unsettling Native Art Histories on the Northwest Coast.

New IVA + IxD Faculty
The School is very happy to announce the hiring of two new faculty members: Robert Rhee in Interdisciplinary Visual Art and James Pierce in Interaction Design. They will join the UW faculty in September 2020.

In Memoriam – Kenneth Pawula
Professor Emeritus Kenneth Pawula passed away in late June. He began teaching painting in the School during 1965 and continued until his retirement in 2000.

2019–2020 Scholarships
Due to the generosity of donors, over $225,000 in named scholarships is being awarded to incoming and current students this year. The recipients and donors are recognized at an invitation-only event on October 16.

NEA Grant for Jacob Lawrence Gallery
A $25,000 grant from the Art Works program of the National Endowment for the Arts has been awarded to the Jacob Lawrence Gallery in support of the 2020 Jacob Lawrence Legacy Residency.

3D4M Assistant Professor Michael Swaine is co-author of a new book documenting research that began with a 2014 Futurefarmers artwork responding to New Mexico's complex nuclear history and the Manhattan Project led by Robert Oppenheimer.

4Culture Collection Additions
At the end of January, 4Culture announced additions to its Portable Works collection for the first time since 2013. Artworks by the late Professor Emeritus Akio Takamori and thirteen alums were included.

Graduation Celebration 2019
This event for graduating students takes place on Saturday, June 15, before the University's commencement ceremony. Tickets are required for attending students and guests.

In Memoriam – Robert C. Jones
The School is sad to announce the passing of Painting Professor Emeritus Robert C. Jones on December 23, 2018. He joined the School faculty in 1960 and taught until his retirement in 1995.
Design Career Fair 2019
The Division of Design is pleased to host our sixth annual Design Career Fair! At this event, employers can recruit current students and alumni for internships and full-time positions from three programs at the University of Washington: Industrial Design, Interaction Design and Visual Communication Design.

Anne Focke Arts Leadership Award
Named for an alum, this award recognizes individuals who have worked to enliven and strengthen our world through visionary and active leadership. The 2019 honoree will be announced in March, and there will be a celebratory dinner in April.

2019 Jacob Lawrence Legacy Residency
The Jacob Lawrence Gallery is pleased to announce Danny Giles as the next Jacob Lawrence Legacy Resident. Giles is a Chicago-based artist who will be in residence during January 2019.

Fundraiser for Jacob Lawrence Legacy Residency
The Jacob Lawrence Gallery has a fundraising campaign to support the 2019 Jacob Lawrence Legacy Residency. This residency and its accompanying exhibition were established in 2015 and are a cornerstone of the Gallery's program.

Held is WSU Museum Executive Director
Alum Robin Held is now the Executive Director of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at Washington State University. Her appointment was announced on June 26, and she began work on August 7.

Neddy Artist Awards
IVA Senior Lecturer and alum Timea Tihanyi won the Open Medium category! Photomedia Assistant Professor Aaron Flint Jamison was a finalist. Both will have work in a November 14 to December 16 exhibition.

MONDAY – Volume 2
MONDAY is a limited-edition journal produced by the Jacob Lawrence Gallery. Each issue is thematically driven. Volume 2 focuses on 21st century Black feminisms, and it is guest edited by C. Davida Ingram.
